Do you consider yourself a risk taker in life, particularly with money? Here’s some insight from Dean Holland on how your level of risk tolerance may be holding you back from achieving your dreams in life and in your business…

“Good morning my friend. Dean here of course, on the way to Internet Profits HQ. Welcome to today’s episode of The Drive. How are you doing?

It is rainy and gloomy here in the UK. Not gonna lie – pretty tired today. I feel low on energy. I wish I’d got up this morning, gone to the gym, done some exercise or something – to really get that blood pumping around my body. But y’know, some days you just can’t do it.

Long, long day ahead right now. It’s like about 8 o’clock in the morning. I’m actually hosting a webinar at 11 p.m. tonight that’ll probably go on to like 1 a.m. in the morning. So what’s that? That’s like a 16 hour day or something? Definitely not one of my typical days anymore – used to be – but not anymore.

But I’m excited because I get to test out a new webinar presentation – a new training – and help deliver more value to people. And I want to talk about something today. Something I’ve been thinking about. And that’s dealing with risk.

I’ve been through a lot of stuff myself. And as I look back, I think I’ve got quite a high risk tolerance. It’s like, I’m not afraid to take risks. I’m not saying risk doesn’t bother me or scare me. But it doesn’t stop me, y’know what I mean? I’m quite a high risk tolerant person.

And because of that, if I look at things over the years, I feel it’s a quality that has got me into some difficulties. But outweighing that are the benefits a high level of risk tolerance has brought me.

I see a lot of people, for example… Y’know, we’re talking of doing webinars… So I see a lot of people when I do a webinar. I see some people that know they need what’s being offered, and they want it deep down. But their fear of taking a risk on themselves, and on the products if their trust isn’t 100%…. The risk will stop them from moving forwards, and they stay in a stationary zone where they feel comfortable.

A lot of people are comfortable to spend $20, $30, $40 or one hundred dollars on a product. And they’ll do that over and over again, amassing thousands and thousands of dollars in spend.

But their level of risk tolerance wouldn’t allow them to spend $5,000 or $3,000 or $2,000 in one go, for something that could help them much more significantly than the tons of fifty dollar products they have sitting on their hard drive. Do you know what I mean?

And so I want you to have a look at yourself and think about this. Think about where you feel your level of risk tolerance is. Are you a low risk tolerance person? Therefore you stay in a low threshold comfort zone? Or do you feel you’re a high risk tolerance person, and therefore you don’t allowed the fears of risk to stop you from moving forward?

Am I talking about being naive and stupid, and making ridiculous decisions because you don’t think anything through? No… But I’ll be honest – I was there, at one stage in my life. That is why I say my high level of risk tolerance has got me into some difficulties.

But what I’m saying is – is that you should realise that all advances and progression in life, generally speaking from my experience, come from taking risks.

Taking a risk;

  • To say, “This is what I want to do.”
  • On actually doing it.
  • On believing in yourself, when others around you may have doubts.
  • To invest in yourself, when you’ve been let down before.
  • To invest in yourself, when you’ve let yourself down before.
  • On yourself, when things have not gone to plan previously.

If you can push through that comfort zone which prevents you doing these things, then you’ll find that you’re actually able to break through and make progress.

I took a risk in moving out of my comfort zone in my home office… Having huge profit margins… To taking on a significant office space for a minimum of five years – but actually a ten-year lease.

Why? Because I went all-in. I took a risk on growing the team. Possibly even before we were financially in a strong enough and clear enough position to grow it as fast as I did. But I know where I wanted to be. And so, what did I do?…

“Hey, hey! What is happening? Welcome to, actually, the first ever Drive here in my new car. Got the Range Rover Sport, all in black. It is absolutely beautiful!

And y’know, this car was actually on my vision board that I had in my old office, when we had our offices in Nottinghamshire, in a place called West Bridgeford. I had this on my vision board back then, and now in the last few days, I got it – which is pretty awesome.

I want to talk about something to do with this. Not to do with the car, not to do with attaining things. Although I suppose it is in a away.

What’s happening right now with people in this industry, with our customers, with other people’s customers, with the industry as a whole?…

Alarming And Overwhelming Lack of Confidence And Self Belief

And do you know what I see, that’s an overwhelming, alarming issue? It’s people’s lack of confidence and belief in themselves and their ability to accomplish what they truly want to accomplish.

I can say it categorically, and I know this might sound weird for somebody that actually sells information. But there really is no shortage of information.

I mean, the internet is a platform of information. Think about it – you go to Google – what are you searching for? Information. You go on YouTube, what are you watching or looking for? Information of some kind. You go on social media, what are you consuming? Information

The Internet is information. So there isn’t actually a shortage of information. One thing I can say is, there is too much misinformation – too much of the wrong information. But hopefully you get my point – there is no shortage of information.

And so when you think about things like that, and you think, “Well, all the information I could ever need is available to me.” Whether you have to pay for it, or it’s freely available, is immaterial really. All the information you need to accomplish your goals in life, whatever they may be, is available to you. Whether you can access it freely, or pay your way to access it – it is there and readily available.

And so, why is there an overwhelming, alarming number of people who are stuck and struggling? If we ignore the fact there’s a lot of misinformation, I want to focus on the fact that

Most People Do Not Believe In Themselves Enough

And I used to be the same. In fact, for a long time, because of failure and struggling, because of lack of results, the belief in myself faltered.

The belief in myself disappeared. I started to think things like, “Well maybe this is me. Maybe I’m not capable of doing this. Perhaps this is the sort of stuff that only a few really clever people can do. Maybe I’m not qualified. Perhaps I just don’t have that ability.”

And that doubt crept in, over and over. It became overwhelming, and I started to really think, “Well maybe I shouldn’t do this. Maybe I should focus on my job. Perhaps I should just accept that, even though the construction company wasn’t my passion, maybe I should just focus on it for life, build up a career in there, and aim to become my boss, and his boss’s boss over the next 10, 20, 30 years.”

And I started to accept the possibility of that being a viable option – and that’s a scary thing when you think about it, right? If you’re not enjoying what you do, not passionate about what you do, and it’s not fulfilling you and delivering to you… But you’re accepting that as your future – then that’s kind of a scary place to be isn’t it?

If you’re accepting that, “I’m not happy with where I’m at, but I’m accepting of this being my future for life until I die.” That’s not a nice place to be.

And so I want to just share some of the things that I’ve done to build that belief. You see, I don’t know if you know this, but here on my arm… When I decided I was gonna really do this, and I built that belief, and I was gonna quit my job and go full-time into this…

I Had “Believe And Achieve” Tattooed Onto My Body

I know not everybody likes tattoos, and that’s the only tattoo I’ve ever had. I’d never even considered it before. But this meant so much to me that I wanted to permanently place it on my body… That that I’m going to believe in myself, and achieve what I set out to achieve.

And I want to share just a few things – just as few simple shifts that you can make, to build that confidence and belief. In fact, I’m not gonna give you any more than one. Because if I give you lots of things, chances are they will reduce the possibility of you actually doing it.

So I’m gonna give you the one biggest thing that shifts my mindset. And I do this morning motivational routine every day, to this day right now…

I now begin my day in a way that most people do not.

I’ve spoken about this in the past, so I’m not going to go into it too much. But you may or may not be aware that there is scientific research – there is scientifically backed facts…. That in the first 10 to 20 minutes of you waking up in a morning – when you have been asleep all night and you wake up – your brain is the most receptive of the entire day.

So what you choose to put into your brain at that stage, can actually impact how your day goes. So here’s one of the biggest things that I can say to you to do. And some of you will say this morning motivational routine is ‘woo woo’ nonsense. Fine. If you’re not open to possibilities, you’ll be closed off to them, and that will be that.

And so, you want to start your day as quickly as possible from the moment you wake, by listening to something that is going to build your confidence and belief, and feed your mind with positivity.

One of the easiest and most freely available morning motivational routines that you can do, that I do to this day, every single day right now is… The moment I wake up, instead of going on Facebook, instead of reading a newspaper, instead of consuming news or media – I go straight onto YouTube. I search for ‘motivational‘ or ‘confidence building‘ or ‘positivity‘ or ‘morning motivation‘ videos. Something like that.

And generally, I will listen to something by people like Les BrownTony Robbins or Eric Thomas. Essentially you’re going to find the same people – these motivational speakers who have dedicated their lives to motivating, inspiring, building and creating confidence and ability-building perceptions in people like you and I.

You listen to at least 10 minutes of that as a morning motivational routine, every single day, every day, first thing in the morning. And you’re going to find shifts occurring in your belief, your mindset, and in your approach.

It won’t happen straightaway. But the more you feed it, the bigger that belief becomes. Because the only thing that can change – or one of the main things, I should I say – that can change beliefs, is time and repetition.

Feed Positive, Motivational, Confidence-Building Information Into Your Brain

So if you feed positive, motivational, confidence-building information into your brain through audio like that, every single day, Every single morning for 10 to 20 minutes every single day. And you repeat that daily in your morning motivational routine. You will see a shift over a period of days, weeks and months as time goes on.

These People, Their Information, Their Words, Can Infect Your Mind In Such A Positive Way

You will have belief in yourself. You will not let things stop you. You will not hit barriers and freeze, and pause. You will keep going… Because these people, their information, their words, can infect your mind in such a positive way.

I have been able to pay my way to access incredible minds in the past. Right now, I’m able to pay my way into ‘Mastermind’ groups that enable me to access incredible, smart, successful, wealthy individuals that can help me, change my mindset, inspire me, guide me and support me.

You can literally… I mean, lets put this in perspective… Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group of Companies – Virgin Airlines, Virgin everything, right? You can actually pay to spend time with him, and go to Necker Island and hang out!

What an incredible world we live in, where you can get access to anything you want if you are willing to, like finding the right mentor of course.

A lot of people would say things like, “Well, that’s alright for you Dean. You have more money.” But you know what? It was ten years ago when I was broke – like, only ten years ago.

I was on the brink of bankruptcy. I had over sixty thousand dollars of debt. I had a minus three thousand dollar bank account, five credit cards, two bank loans. I couldn’t pay my way out of debt at that stage. But you know what I had?

I Had A Willingness To Keep Fighting

So I don’t want to hear from anyone who says, “Oh, it’s okay for you…” BS!

Like, it wasn’t okay for me when I was in debt. Wasn’t okay for me when I was working in my construction job, staying up all night to work on my business, to fight my way out of the hell hole that I was living in. It wasn’t okay for me when I was hiding the state of my life from all my family, my loved ones and my friends.

And it wasn’t okay for me when I couldn’t even sleep at night because I was so afraid and worried about the mess I was in. That wasn’t okay for me then… And it may not be okay for you now. But with enough willingness to fight, you can make it out. And that really, essentially is my message of today.

You can get anything you want in life. You can access anything and anyone if you are willing to fight, if you are willing to do what it takes. And doing what it takes is not gonna come easy. Oh, no! Wouldn’t that be nice, if everything just came on a silver platter. I wasn’t born like that. You probably weren’t too.

So, what can we do about it? We can take control, we can take responsibility, and we can find the right mentor. Things are gonna go wrong in our lives. We’re gonna come up against hard times, we’re gonna have to fight, dig deep, be more committed and willing than ever before.

Well, here’s online entrepreneur Dean Holland’s top three daily routines that will increase productivity, boost your energy levels, and help provide the focus you need in order to succeed with your online business today…

Today I want to talk about something a little bit different. I want to talk about more to do with how you’re operating, and how your kind of acting yourself…

And this is especially important for those of you that still have a full-time job, and you’re trying to build your online business whilst working and juggling all this other stuff going on in your day to day life. It is especially important for you and your daily routines.

But also I guess, in many respects, this is equally important to those of you like me, in my position, where you are full-time responsible for the outcome of your business. You’re running your own business, and nobody’s going to put a wages pay check into your bank account at the end of the month.

So, I had an interesting conversation recently. I was at a seminar and we were basically in the bar in the evening, talking about everyone’s day to day patterns and daily routines, and how they operate on a day to day basis. And I was talking about how I’ve done a bit of testing over recent times, in terms of how you operate and perform in certain areas of the day.

Now I’m gonna tell you the number one biggest thing of everything, that I’ve found in my testing that’s gonna impact the way you act, your sharpness, your focus, and your energy levels.

This Is Biggest Daily Routine That Impacts Your Energy, Sharpness and Focus

I used to get really, really sort of sluggish, sleepy and be yawning mid afternoon. I’ve discovered it’s dehydration. Got to be drinking lots of water in a day. And sometimes you got to kind of force yourself to do it. But you have to.

You’ve got to be drinking water all throughout the day. From the moment you wake up, through to the evening, an hour before you go to bed. You’ve got to be consuming like at least three litres of water. And the difference it makes is astounding. Like, honestly it’s staggering the difference it makes. So that’s one thing.

Two: Having a good sleeping pattern. Like, if you’re staying up really late and then getting up late… If you operate best that way, and you’ve got that option if you’re working for yourself full time, then fair enough. But if you’re not, it’s not gonna be good.

On the other side of that as well – and this is what a lot of people are doing when they’re juggling work, life, and trying to start a business… Is they’re staying up really late, not getting much sleep, and then waking up early. If you are operating on hardly any sleep, you’re going to burn out.

Some People Think That, “Oh, But I’m Being Really Productive”

You’re probably not. Like, you’re probably being a “busy fool“. You feel like putting in those hours and staying up late is serving you. But it may not be, at least not in the long-term, okay?

Get a good amount of sleep each night. Make sure you’re having enough sleep for your body. So that’s two things: Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water, be hydrated. And fix your sleeping patterns.

Here’s another… I’m gonna leave you with this one. It’s like “the big three” I guess.

How you start your day can dictate the mood and the the results of the entire day. So what I mean by that is… If you are in daily routines where you wake up and you watch the news, or you read a newspaper and consume media. Not good!

Media can come in all different forms… Social media, like if you wake up grab your cell phone and sit on Facebook or Twitter reading other people’s lives other people’s crap, news, politics, all this kind of gibberish… It is going to have a negative effect – you’re feeding your brain with negativity.

I did a Drive recently on this – what you’re feeding your body, what you’re feeding your brain. Like, food intake into your body, and information intake into your brain. It’s impacting you – what you’re feeding your brain and your body will impact you.
